Experience the mystery and magic of North Iceland on this 5-day northern lights tour with Icelandic Farm Holidays

This 5-day tour is for people who want to enjoy the best of both worlds; the city life of Iceland‘s capital Reykjavik and second city Akureyri, and the chance to experience the northern lights in Iceland‘s stunning countryside. The tour is based at Skjaldarvík, a charming family-owned guesthouse in a beautiful location just north of Akureyri.

The tour includes flights between Reykjavik and Akureyri, transfers and an escorted northern lights tour. Optional excursion to Lake Mývatn, Dimmuborgir lava formations and the Nature Baths geothermal spa. Day 1: Iceland arrival, staying in Reykjavik

You will arrive at Keflavik airport, transfer to Reykjavik – and if you have extra time you will be able to visit Blue Lagoon or simply enjoy the city life of Reykjavik. You will be staying at Icelandair Hotel Reykjavik Natura.

Day 2: Going to Akureyri

In the morning you will fly from Reykjavik airport to Akureyri. It will only take 40 minutes. In Akureyri you will be staying for the next two nights. At the airport in Akureyri you will be picked up and briefed about the northern lights evening tour and the short sightseeing tour in Akureyri. You will be picked up at 21.45 for the northern lights tour and the duration is around 3 hours. You will be staying at Skjaldarvík Guesthouse, located only 10 min drive north of Akureyri.

Day 3: Enjoy Akureyri

Today you can plan your day as you wish. Some suggestions: Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere at Skjaldarvík or visit Akureyri and its cafés, restaurants, galleries and the great outdoor geothermal swimming pool. Another option is to go and visit the Myvatn nature baths – a natural geothermal pool located in the middle of a lava field.

Day 4: Back to Reykjavik

The departure to Akureyri airport is at 9.00 and the flight to Reykjavik is around 9:40. In Reykjavik you have a free day to enjoy the great restaurants, galleries, shops and the vibrant cultural scene of the city. You will be staying at Icelandair Hotel Reykjavik Natura.

Day 5: Departure

The best thing about this tour is the opportunity to combine a city break with visiting the countryside of North Iceland. Remoter locations out in the country and especially far up north provide you with a better chance of spotting the northern lights in addition to being a great way to relax and enjoy nature. North Iceland offers a picturesque volcanic landscape with hot springs, waterfalls, mountains and glacial rivers. There are countless opportunities for sightseeing and enjoying winter sports in Akureyri while you wait for the magical northern lights to appear.
