Northern Lights Self Drive from Reykjavik

Most people think you will need a private guidance in order to see the aurora borealis but the reality is that you can easily do it yourself! In this packages with Iceland Travel we combine both schedule tours with some great experts and simply doing it all by yourself. It gives you flexibility and relaxation as you drive around various attractions in Iceland – and hunt for the aurora lights that can be difficult to find sometimes.

One of the great options when you want to travel to Iceland to see the northern lights is to do a self drive tour. It has its pros and cons, but for sure it isn´t too complicated to do it all by yourself. However do not misunderstand us – guidance is always appreciated, otherwise we wold not be able to off all the other tours we offer.

In this package we combine a mix of scheduled bus tour to see the northern lights in the first evening and a self drive. You will stay at two great hotels – one a bit ouside of Reykjavik, Grimsborgir and the second is in the heart of Reykjavik.

It can be great to have a car yourself for increased flexibility as the northern lights are very unpredictable and with guided tour we need to keep the schedule – but the northern lights might just decide to show up in a “hole” in the clouds when nobody is expecting it! Hence in this packages we combine this all together into one amazing package – both staying in Reykjavik and outside of Reykjavik, and having the flexibility of a car and then also the great help from a guided bus tour.
