Snaefellsnes Peninsula and Auroras – 2 days and 1 night – best things in Iceland in one tour and just one destination. Snaefellsnes Peninsula truly deserves to be called “Iceland in miniature” because of its stunning and varied landscape.
We drive from Reykjavik through the west part of Iceland and even before we reach our destination the tour begins. We will visit an interesting fjord, Hvalfjordur, where you can enjoy serene and blissful landscape. The next stop-over is “Dragi”, a mountain pass to the valley of Skorradalur. From there we go to the hot spring, Deildartunguhver, which which holds the highest flow of water in entire Europe. We will also drive to a little village, Reykholt, where Snorri Sturluson, the author of the Edda Sagas lived.
If you want to see waterfalls, then we will show you one of the best waterfalls in Iceland, beginning with Hraunfossar falls and then to Barnafoss.
After the waterfalls experience we will continue to awe you with Eldborg crater, an impressive wall of basalt columns called Gerduberg and Raudamelsolkelda which is a mineral well. Then we will drive to your accommodation passing Vegamot.
Day two will be all about Snaefellsnes peninsula. We will explore and discover the best places as well as do the top things to do in Iceland. Sightseeing around the peninsula, from iconic mountains of Kirkjufell to the the tip of the peninsula at Ondverdarnes, where scenery is quite magical and captivating with stunning cliffs known as Svortuloft. Black sand beaches will also be in our itinerary. In Djupalonssandur, the power of the ocean can be witnessed first-hand.
We will then travel to Hellnar where you can enjoy a magnificent view of the cliffs, the sea and the glacier of Snaefellsjokul. Arnarstapi comes next to our destination as we give applause to the beautiful yet unusually weird basalt rock formations.
Caving is one of the top things to do in Iceland and we will experience it the easy way in Vatnshellir in the National Park of Snaefellsnes.
After the caving experience we will go back to Arnastapi and visit Bardur Snaefellsas a half human and half ogre sculpture, you will learn his story along the way.
